Adding and subtracting folks from my Friends List.

Also, here is a scary story.

Once upon a time, there was an Earthling named [livejournal.com profile] twotone. She lived in a two-storey house with her mom and dad and sister and hamster.

The hamster also lived in a two-storey house. He did not live with his mon or dad or sister.

One day, [livejournal.com profile] twotone walked into the hamster's room. The hamster was sleeping peacefully and blissfully in his cage.

This was as it should be.

The hamster's food bowl had scraps of food in it, and not overturned.

This also was as it should be.

However, in the food bowl...

Was one...
lone...
feather.

It was light, and downy, and pale white-grey.

Scarcely the size of a peanut, it lay in the bowl, slightly quivering in the breeze.

Days passed, and [livejournal.com profile] twotone had almost forgotten about the feather.

The hamster also seemed to have no recollection of the feather.

However, one evening, while [livejournal.com profile] twotone was preparing some lettuce leaves for dinner (but not, alas, for the hamster's dinner)...

Clinging to the underside of a leaf of lettuce...
was one...
lone...
feather.

*spooky music*

DG and I are in the process of "discussion" on his desire to add a pair of dwarf Siberian hamsters to the menagerie around here.

With my luck, the amazing lone feather would show up for them, too.

twotone: A toy figure in a penguin costume is dismayed. It stands next to a mug with a penguin illustration and a broken handle. (Default)
I have been yearning for dwarf hamsters for a while now.

* As pets, not as food.

Campbell's dwarf hamsters come in a lovely variety of colours now; the winter white Russians only come in two colours depending on the season, and I think the Djungarian hamsters are the regular dwarf hamsters. Apparently they can be quite entertaining pets but are not as people-oriented as golden hamsters.

Given that my hamster alternately ignores me or tries to eat me, I shudder to think.

The ones that we found are REVOLTINGLY social. Stick your hand in, and they'll climb you to get close.

A delicately soft little grey fellow completely charmed my husband.

BTW ... Oracle wants to know if the giant hand has given you any peanut sesame treats. Heck, these things look good to ME. Nummy sesame seeds over peanut butter over ... a roasted peanut! Oracle is a fanatic over them, and she's hard to impress.

We've also added a (currently nameless) female grey Siberian hamster to the menagerie. She picked DG, not the other way around. She's happiest out of the cage, being social. Odd little critter.

Oracle wants to know where she send a CARE package since the Giant Hand is being a tyrant.

Of course, she's a little busy trying to give me a bath right now. ::wince:: I think someone needs her claws trimmed if she's going to run around inside my shirt.
